Abstract

Dementiaof the Alzheimer typeis oneof the maincauses of disabilityamongthe elderlyand is classified as one ofmajorpublic health problemsin the United Statesand the Scandinavian countries. The direct costs of the healthcare incurred, in case of a singlepatient,were estimated from $ 16,000 to $ 40,000 whereasindirect costs at $ 175,000.
